Monthly Young Adult Mass and Food Drive
Last Tuesday of Every Month
October 31st, 7:30PM
NOTE: Food Collection at 6:30
IMPORTANT NOTE: for October 31, the Mass will be held at St.
Joseph's Church, 582 Hope St., Mountain View.
YA Halloween Mass
Please mark your calendars for Tuesday evening, Oct 31th, at 7:30
and each final Tuesday of every month for our monthly Young Adult
Mass. This Mass is offered to and for the young adults of our
Deanery (northern grouping of parishes in the Diocese of San Jose
which includes Palo Alto, Stanford, Los Altos, and Mountain View),
yet is open to any and all young adults from college-age to early
40s. The liturgy is smaller and more intimate, focusing on
introductions and a conversational/dialogue homily, followed by
fellowship and refreshments.
Prior to mass, Laura Lessard of the Stanford Young Adults is
organizing a pre-Mass Second Harvest Food Drive on Halloween night.
This involves dressing up in costume and collecting food in the
neighborhoods surrounding St. Joseph's Church.
Contact Laura at:
laura.lessard@gmail.com
for more info about this fun service activity
Afterwards, there will be a Halloween party hosted by the Young
Adults of St. Joseph's parish inside Fr. Doyle Hall in the church
basement. Come in costume or normal dress, and celebrate Halloween
with the Young Adults of Deanery 2!
The Young Adults of St. Joseph's will be providing tasty snacks
for the after Mass party. You can help them out by bringing
non-alcoholic beverages or a donation to help offset the cost.

in comfort, either in pews or on the carpeted floor.

Come to understand what being in a "good relationship" means in
this interesting talk about human relationships.
Speaker: Fr. Eddie Samaniego, SJ

DUMAINE LECTURE SERIES:
WILLIAM STOEGER, S.J. ON SCIENCE AND THEOLOGY
November 6th, 7:30 PM
Building 200, room 203 (the main lecture hall).
Stanford University
The lecture series sponsored by the Stanford Catholic Community
has been named to honor Pierre Dumaine, the first Bishop of San
Jose who has been a longtime supporter of our community.
Fr. William Stoeger, S. J., will speak on a topic of great interest
and heated debate in the last few years around the contention
between evolution and creationism: whether Darwinian notions of
natural selection leave room for intelligent design by a divine
Creator, whether scientific explanations of the origins of life
exclude the claims of faith and religious belief.
Fr. Stoeger is an expert on the subject. A distinguished astronomer
at the Vatican Observatory located at the University of Arizona, he
speaks as a scientist and a man of faith. His lecture is titled
"Science and Theology: Creation and Natural Processes," and two
short pieces by Fr. Stoeger on the subject will be available on
the Catholic Community at Stanford web site for those who might
want to read them in advance of his talk. The talk is open to the
public and all are invited. Bishop Dumaine and Bishop McGrath will
join us for this important occasion.
